Vintage Tube Talk: Peggy Olson & Patty Duke

Yesterday Season 4 of Mad Men was released on DVD, so of course I had to run to the store and buy it. I started watching the show in January and so far I've finished the first 3 seasons. I'm super excited to start the 4th season tonight!

To celebrate, I thought I'd share a fun little dress I found a few weeks ago that reminds me so much of Mad Men's Peggy Olson!

1960s Scooter Secretary Dress with Ascot Tie and Peggy Olson from Mad Men

I just love the gorgeous gowns and chic outfits of the ladies in Mad Men, but Peggy has a style all her own. In the first season she comes into the office dressed like a cute little college girl, but with every new episode her style gets more sophisticated. She ignores her fellow secretaries' advice to show her legs more and instead comes in with nicely tailored, professional knee length dresses and skirts. She wears a variety of textures and patterns, including pleated skirts and geometric prints like the ones on my dress! Many of her outfits also include ascot ties, almost like she's telling all those ad men that she can wear a tie too because she's their equal. Peggy certainly doesn't need a revealing or tight garment to catch a man's attention! Her sassy secretary dresses show everyone just the kind of creative, independent lady that she is!

To add some more TV fun, I also wanted to share a cute little dress that's very reminiscent of sweetheart TV starlet of the 60s, Patty Duke!

Patty Duke from The Patty Duke Show and my 1960s houndstooth flower print shirt dress

Much like Peggy Olson, Patty Duke was never afraid to be daring with her outfits. She was known for the trendy little dresses she wore with girly patterns like paisley and flowers, but she was also known for mixing that girliness with tomboyish spunk! Patty definitely rocked the shirt dress style, a comfortable and boyish design that was a perfect fit for her energetic personality. What made her dresses so trendy wasn't only this smart combination of girly patterns and tomboyish fits though. The contemporary and flirty mini cuts of her dresses very much appealed to the fearless attitudes of the American teenage girl! All-American sweetheart meets 60s teenage rebel indeed!

Both dresses are available now in my shop so be sure to check them out!
